How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
Yea i know this can go on the match thread, but genuinely interested in opinions, and hopefully not c&b tinted ones, for the benefit of genuine views. Not being a follower of the French league, I don't know that much about Lyon, just know a few of their players, and last night was not the best time to judge them due to the sending off and the fraud in black, but apart from the cheating they seem a decent unit, good passers, but maybe lacking a final ball/finish, and we did manage to get round the back of them a few times.

With no away goal rule last night is now totally irrelevant, next week is just a one game winner takes all affair. So are you very confident, cautiously optimistic, or have a bad feeling about it, etc? Personally, I think we are angry and will give it everything and pound for pound we are better than them, also have Lanzini back, so I would say I'm cautiously optimistic. The one thing that would worry me is how we would react if we went a goal down, but we have proved on many occasions in recent times that we can come roaring back from a deficit.

I was happy after losing first leg against Seville only 1-0 as thought we could have easily lost 2 or 3 in the second half.

Likewise when Cresswell went off I thought the tie was over.
1-1 a good result now away goals don’t count.

I now feel it’s a bit like an fa cup quarter final where we have been drawn away and decided on the night.
I thought Seville offered more than Lyon so if we play well and have a strong ref we can win this.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
Genuinely we have a great chance.

If we play as well as we can and don;t make any mistakes and get a fair shake from the ref, then we win. Last night was only going one way until the sending off.

I've watched them a few times. They are dodgy at the back. Their right back was constantly caught out behind and Antonio had their centre backs on toast. Only Benrahma having a stinker prevented us from probably scoring in the first half.

Only word of warning is that they are dangerous up front/on the break as they demonstrated a couple of times and their sly tactics will be a leveller so we really have to concentrate and show discipline and not fall for their tricks.

But all things being equal, we win. But of course i have a bad feeling about it.

I think we have a great chance. I'm sure Notes would have seen how narrow they play and can exploit them out wide, and I think Lanzini back down the middle will offer an extra outlet to Rice and Tomas

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
I think we are generally a good away side, we also don’t hold onto big leads well.

I was hoping for a 1-0 last night but not unhappy at all with a 1-1

Lot went against us last night, that might fuel the fire.

Antonio desperately needs to bag on Sunday he generally played alright last night but really needs a goal.

I think we could win 2-1 Antonio and a Dawson header from a corner.

Also wouldn’t be surprised to see it go all the way to pens.

Far from out of it though.

Please give us a strong, fair, decent ref though.

*Moyes*

Also, Declan will have the handbrake off next week with the yellow card no longer hanging over him. Biggest decision Moyes will have is Jimmy or Benny, and whether Coufal's ready. If he is fit, his crossing would be invaluable and he could really terrified that ex chelsea cunt

Miike - Suspect it will be Jimmy and Coufal.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
Confident but not complacent, would take 1-0 right now as I’m sure everyone else would

Few positives in our favour as others have mentioned

Rice no longer worrying about card, so can get stuck in again

Lanzini back hopefully

Coufal could be back fit allowing Johnson slot in left back and provide more width, urgently need his crosses as Mike said without cresswell

Hopefully won’t have a terrible ref this time too

yes, Benny probably offers a bit more from the bench if we're chasing a goal

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
One thing is for sure if we get on top their French fans will go all French and get on their backs. Been to Lyon before and they get on the players backs if they pass backwards.

One simple think Moyes will spot is their very high line when we have few kicks in their half.

We had Bowen taking the kicks but he will change that. We will just knock ball in the gaps behind and ask Bowen to chase. It is then a sprint race.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
I’m confident we’ll score at least once out there, so defend properly and we’ll do the job.

I really think we could do with Coufal starting, if Johnson’s gonna be deputising at LB. Bit harsh on Fredericks who did alright last night, but Coufal when fully fit is a far superior defender.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
We have to be confident, especially when everything went Lyon, and we still came away with a draw.

My only worry is taking our chances. I thought we opened them up several times but never made the most of the chances as we are not clinical.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
Thought we were a bit feeble last night and were second to every second ball. If I was Moyes I'd go for roughing them up from the first whistle.
Win every second ball and leave their players on the floor after every challenge.
Risky with European refs and against teams like Lyon who will try to exploit every challenge, but my thinking is they will do this any way so we may as well rough them up in a controlled way
They won't like it up em.

Will be difficult to win out there, but you can’t rule out this team, win in extra time….

Is it the same ref?

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
With Lanzini playing i would match them in midfield. Their 3 CMs dictated the game last night, even before the sending off. Play Fornals and Bowen behind Antonio. This should allow Soucek to get i nthe box as well. Like others said, they look suspect at the back. Every time we broke with pace they couldn't handle us.

They will be better at home, going to be a tight game. If we play at our best we might just scrape it.

No. Fortunately different Ref.

Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
Until they got Creswell sent off I thought they were nothing special at all.

All.their histrionics, play acting, cheating etc showed they didn't fancy playing us at all.

Only when we went down to 10 they went for the kill. It salmons like that was their entire plan all along.

If the boys are up for it.... AND we get a non corrupt ref that vaguely knows the rules we stand a chance.

We're still in this.

(Puts Tin Foil hat on.)
Said it to a mate last year. After the Super League debacle. UEFA will do anything in its power to keep hold of the reins. Meaning. Milking us. (The Premiership.) While bending over and taking it up the arse from the lesser leagues.

Now. We may win next week. Might even reach the final. But you can put serious money down. That UEFA will do their damndest that the Premiership won’t be holders of their two biggest trophies at the same time.

Mad Dog 4:29 Fri Apr 8
Re: How do you rate our chances in the second leg next week?
Rb
I've got the opposite tin hat. I think they'll do anything to give those "super league" clubs everything they want to keep them happy. And that means fucking over EVERY other team that dares threaten the status quo
